Lori is here today from the Advisors Circle. She recently stopped by to share her Weekend Getaway Blouse with pleats tutorial and now she’s here with her latest make. Thanks so much Lori!

Liesl + Co. Terrace Dress

A new dress pattern from Liesl + Co. is an exciting event and I was so happy to be able to sew the Terrace Dress. Liesl provided some great inspiration in a recent blog post and I loved the dress with the shirt tail hem.

I decided to use a red-cream seersucker from Mood Fabrics for my dress and went with a size Medium. My preference is for a straighter dress instead of the a-line skirt. I straightened out the side seams. Then I used my French curve to create a curved hem. You could use a favorite pattern (like the Gallery Dress, Classic Shirt or Recital Shirt) that has the same detail. One thing I did do was make sure the front and back matched up for the curve.

The sewing for this is very straight forward and Liesl’s instructions are excellent. I did cut my neckline a bit deeper, lowered the bust dart one inch and took in the center back seam 1 inch from neckline to just below my hips. In the future I probably will eliminate the center back seam. There is an exception to this. If your fabric is a linen or other solid fabric, the center back seam is great for topstitching detail.

Now for the belt, I needed some contrast so I went with a denim for the front of the belt. I did take off about a ½” from the top and bottom width. I really like how the denim makes a statement on this dress and gives some needed color against the seersucker.

The Terrace Dress is a great go to summer dress, it is quick to make. From the time I cut out the pattern to completion was just over two hours. Just think with a couple of pattern changes the dress will look unique each time you make it. I love the example with the v-neck and then maybe insert the ties in the side seams for a fun summer look.

So take a look at the Terrace Dress and find you favorite fabric or fabrics and make yourself a closetful of these great summer dresses. The sleeve option makes this a great spring transition dress.

I appreciate the opportunity from Liesl to add this dress to my wardrobe.
